Design Lab Communications Copywriter/Editor

Job Description

Under the direction of the Communications Lead, the incumbent will write creative and engaging copy for dissemination of the Design Lab’s story to the larger academic and design industry communities with the goal of making the Design Lab the hub for design related news in the San Diego region and generating interest in the Design Lab’s research for partnerships and collaborations.

Tasks:

  • Write creative, engaging, compelling, and on-strategy copy on tight deadlines for a variety of digital properties including, but not limited to, email, newsletter, web, blog, and Social media
  • Assist in developing and executing communications strategies as determined by the Design Lab Communications Lead
  • Collaborate with creative partners to deliver email campaigns with standout visual design and assets
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop ideas that are on-strategy
  • Analyze performance of the email campaigns, blogs, etc., and optimize the content and copywriting accordingly

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/understanding of Human/People/User-Centered Design a plus or willing to learn
  • Candidate with completed upper-divisional communications/marketing coursework highly preferred
  • Journalism experience preferred
  • 1-3 years of communications and or editorial work related experience highly preferred
  • Excellent copywriting, editorial, and proofing skills – including strong knowledge of grammar and email content best practices
  • High level of detail and organization required
  • Strong project and time-management skills
  • Understanding of audience and lifecycle
  • Experience measuring performance, and optimizing content/copy to improve results based on audience response
  • Broad digital copywriting skills are a plus
  • Strong collaboration skills
