A New Architecture for Computing:
The Future of Cloud, Data and AI is Open

If the history of technology has taught us anything, it’s that change is constant. We’ve seen it with the birth of the computing machine, internet, cloud and now the application of artificial intelligence in our daily lives.

As technology evolves, so does the role of developers who have become embedded in the fabric of these changing technologies. The developer of today is very different than the developer of three years ago and perhaps unrecognizable to the developer a decade ago. Driving the democratization of technology, developers are constantly evolving to continuously innovate and move with changing paradigms.

In this presentation, Dr. Angel Diaz will describe a new architecture for the cognitive era, built on cloud, data and artificial intelligence. The future of technology will be open and will exist in a new API economy. Dr. Diaz will discuss the critical role played by open source projects such as Node.js, Spark, Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes and Docker, as future of cloud and cognitive come into focus.

As is the case with any budding industry, a skills gap is emerging in which the market doesn’t have enough experienced developers to address the growing demand for cloud, data and AI development. Dr. Angel Diaz will address the gaps in practical terms and spark a dialog on how to best address those needs.

Dr. Angel Diaz

Always on the move, Dr. Angel Diaz is IBM’s VP of Developer Advocacy and Technology. His passion is leveraging technology to drive positive change, specifically to empower developers to solve the world’s problems – smarter, faster, together – in the open source world. Prior to this, as IBM’s VP of Cloud Technology and Architecture, Dr. Diaz and his team were responsible for the technology, architecture and strategy behind IBM Hybrid, an open and secure cloud empowering IBM clients with a new way to work.

When he’s not working to bring greater value to clients, Dr. Diaz is IBM’s leader for open technology, spearheading an industry renaissance driven by open source code, community and culture. A master of the artof- the-possible, Dr. Diaz has been the driving force behind many of the most important cloud, data and mobile open technology movements, focused on enabling innovation built on simple, practical solutions.
