Speakers: Scholars from across the region, International Affairs Board Leadership & the Design Lab’s Community Team

Date: Thursday, September 10, 2020

Times:

Part 1 | 11 AM – 12 PM PST
Part 2 | 2 PM – 4 PM PST

JOIN THE DESIGN LAB, DESIGN FORWARD ALLIANCE, INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS BOARD AND YOUR FELLOW SAN DIEGANS IN AN HISTORIC SAN DIEGO DESIGN WEEK EVENT.

How might we harness human-centered design to radically reimagine our city’s future?

The story of the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan region is one of transformation. As our region prepares for its next evolution across this coming decade, join us to help shape the City of San Diego’s Global Vision 2030 project — a strategic plan commissioned from the International Affairs Board by the mayor’s office — in this radically inclusive, all-day design intensive. No design experience necessary!

PART 1 | CONVERGE – Thursday, September 10, 11 am to 12 pm

Hear from the city’s youth in a flipping-of-the-script panel discussion during which the ‘experts’ take a back seat. K-12 students from across the region will speak on their lived experiences about the issues that matter most to their communities. Live conversations will be moderated with dedicated time for designers to ask questions to help narrow focus to key challenges informed by community members in preparation for the afternoon design workshop.

PART 2 | DEFINE & DESIGN – Thursday, September 10, 2 pm to 4 pm

Ideate and propose recommendations for inclusion in the Global Vision 2030 Strategic Plan during this human-centered design workshop. Utilizing the pre-read toolkit resources & community insights collected during the Converge session, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate and get creative with other passionate San Diego residents on Zoom and Miro to imagine a better future for our city!

YOU’LL WALK AWAY FROM THIS EVENT WITH:

  • A deeper understanding of  opportunity areas being explored for advancement in the IAB’s Global Vision 2030 Strategic Plan
  • Grounding in the voices of fellow community members related to their unique lived experiences
  • Human-centered Design tools designed to empower you to take action related to issues that matter to you most
  • A broader network of connections, a virtual platform for engagement, and ideas for engaging your community
