The Innovation Lab at La Jolla Country Day School, having just completed its third year in existence, values its “startup atmosphere” where the entire blended team of experienced educators and industry professionals is key in redesigning the K-12 education experience. Our goal is to teach our students professional level research skills and development processes that are critical to adoptable innovation. Students are expected to work for industry and develop IP, products, solutions and technology.

As the Innovation Lab’s Digital, Mobile, UX Designer/Developer and Educator, you will be a member of a mixed team of professionals from industry and education playing an integral role in educating our students to become true innovators. We believe that true innovators can identify the right problems to solve and be able to deliver solutions that meet user needs, are technically feasible and are business viable. Responsibilities

The expertise that you will need to bring to the Innovation Lab at La Jolla Country Day School will be in web, app and mobile design & development. You will need to have a portfolio of solutions that you have developed that are not only technically impressive but also represent your expertise in UX and graphic design theory and application.

This is a full time position teaching and mentoring students, faculty and staff as well as working on or project managing and mentoring students on a variety of department and organizational projects.

General Responsibilities

  • Acting as a leader and resource for UX, digital, mobile and web development

Graduate Student (Summer)

EnVision Arts and Engineering Maker Studio

The EnVision Arts and Engineering Maker Studio has a joint summer project with Birch Aquarium to design interactive displays for the visiting public. The vision is the San Francisco Exploratorium meets Scripps Institute of Oceanography. One of the projects may be design of outdoor spaces including possibly bioinspired ways to addresses issues of wind, sun, and rain.

We have funding to hire a graduate student for 20 hours a week between  July 2ndSeptember 7th. The graduate students would mentor 10 undergrads through the customer discovery and design process. They would work with Jesse DeWald from EnVision and Dr. Nan Renner from Birch and our Cog. Sci. department.

Amgen’s Customer Experience (CX) group is recruiting for a Customer Experience Design Senior Manager, located in Thousand Oaks, California. The role involves identifying customer needs and defining requirements for beyond-the-molecule innovations that result in the best outcomes for people managing illness and disease. This person will work within an integrated CX team with complementary expertise.

Founded in 2013 the Customer Experience (CX) group is part of Global Marketing and adds a critical capability of human-centered design to Amgen’s innovation approach. There are three areas of CX responsibility: 1) In collaboration with product teams, CX applies design thinking methods of research, ideation and iteration to ensure prioritized Amgen therapies meaningfully meet the needs of patients and providers at launch and evolve through life cycle management to improve the customer experience; 2) In partnership with cross-functional teams, CX provides customer requirements for development of drug delivery platforms and digital health platforms; 3) CX creates and pilots customized design frameworks and tools to effectively work within Amgen’s culture and in partnership with commercialization scales design capabilities across business units and regions.

The CX Design Senior Manager role may cut across areas of CX responsibility. This strategic role develops a deep understanding of the diverse needs of patients, families, providers, and communities within disease areas. The Senior Manager will apply design thinking methods to define and prototype optimal customer experiences in close partnership with product teams and “enabler” groups such as operations engineers, digital health, and others in innovation. The Senior Manager will lead programs, foster team integration, and leverage CX best practices.

Working within a highly regulated pharmaceutical arena, the role involves clear communication with a range of internal stakeholders including Product Teams, Global and Regional Business leaders, Operations and Clinical Development leaders, and Regulatory and Legal partners. Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation’s Product Design Strategy Group is seeking a senior design researcher to whose primary focus will be to work with the Anti-Harassment Tools (AHT) Team to support the development of tools and policies aimed at reducing online harassment and other disruptive behavior on Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects.  Formed in 2017, the AHT team’s mission is to address a wide range of behavior: from content vandalism, stalking, name-calling, trolling, doxxing, and discrimination, to anything that targets individuals for unfair and harmful attention. As the world’s largest encyclopedia, and a cornerstone of the open content movement, Wikimedia seeks to build and model an online community that aligns with its mission of inclusion and diversity.

The team is building tools that will: help detect harassment and stalking; make it easier for people to report harassment; help wiki administrators to evaluate reports; and block unwanted harassers from our projects.  Working closely with product managers, developers, community advocates and many passionate volunteers, the Sr. Researcher will design qualitative and quantitative research that results in actionable insights that can drive the development of these new tools.  Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects are complex places, both socially and technically — this position requires enthusiasm for learning about new communities, processes, and cultural norms.

The WMF Product Design Strategy Group provides strategic research and experimentation to help inform and inspire future product and platform decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, drive and support qualitative and quantitative research agenda to better understand the needs of Wikipedia contributors who have experienced or witnessed harassment, and administrators who are working to protect the editing community
  • Perform analysis of complex, dynamic online communities to identify opportunities and problematic areas of existing tools and workflows
  • Help design a set of interdependent software features, in collaboration with the editors who will use those features

Requirements:

The Role:
