InnerLab: Where Design Meets the Real World
InnerLab is where design gets to work. It is the part of the Design Lab @ UC San Diego where faculty, practitioners, and students collaborate directly with civic organizations, companies, and community groups to solve real-world challenges. We bring the rigor of a research institution and the energy of a design studio to problem spaces that actually need both.
At the Design Lab, design is not a service — it's a community superpower. By convening diverse voices, making ideas tangible, and operationalizing complex solutions, we help communities face the future with clarity, creativity, and courage. Located in UC San Diego's state-of-the-art Design and Innovation Building, our interdisciplinary teams work across industry, government, civic, nonprofit, and philanthropy. We shape not only local outcomes but a global model for design-driven transformation.

Through InnerLab, our living design ecosystem connecting research, practice, and community, partners don't just work with us — they join a movement. We don't just respond to change.
