Designing A Bold New Transportation Vision in 5 Big Moves
The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is in the process of developing the 2021 Regional Plan, a transformational vision for the future of transportation in the San Diego region. The 5 Big Moves– Complete Corridors, Transit Leap, Mobility Hubs, Flexible Fleets, and the Next OS – is the strategy for a complete and equitable transportation system that connects communities and protects what we love most about our region — our parks, our beaches, our canyons, and open spaces, our diverse communities and people, and our vibrant economy. Through a unique data-driven planning process that uses robust GIS analysis, custom modeling tools, engineering and planning principles, and Human-Centered Design, SANDAG is designing a vision for a world-class transportation system that will serve the needs of generations to come.
About the Speaker
Antoinette Meier is the Director of the Mobility and Innovation Department for the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). Antoinette leads the development of plans, policies, and programs that create more sustainable transportation choices for the San Diego region. From innovative partnerships to clean and intelligent transportation solutions, Antoinette is tasked with casting a vision for the future of transportation through the 2021 Regional Plan and exploring new ways to provide the region with high-quality mobility options and greater access to opportunity.
For the past 10 years at SANDAG Antoinette has led regional commuter services and innovative pilot projects that reduce traffic congestion, improve mobility and air quality. This includes managing the regional Transportation Demand Management Program (iCommute), facilitating shared mobility pilot projects and autonomous vehicle planning and testing, and fostering partnerships with transit agencies, local jurisdictions, academia, and the region’s largest employers to promote sustainable transportation choices to the region’s commuters.
Prior to joining SANDAG, Antoinette worked in community and economic development in both the San Diego region and the City of Seattle. Antoinette has a master’s degree in City Planning and is an AICP certified planner.
